Ask a Law Librarian
Lawyer in the Library
Leer en español
Make an appointment to speak to a volunteer lawyer for 15 minutes via Zoom and ask your legal questions. Lawyers can help with questions about family law, probate law, landlord/tenant law, and other general legal topics.
The attorneys are volunteers; you are not their client. There is no attorney-client relationship, and they cannot represent you. After your appointment, do not contact them about your case.
The volunteer attorney cannot help you fill out forms. If you just have procedural questions, Law Library staff may be able to assist you.
If you have an attorney already, you may not take part in the program.
Please review the Rules of the program prior to registering for an appointment.
Weekly Program Schedule
We offer 4 different programs. The type of legal issue you have will determine which program you should sign up for.
- Family Law - Every Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 PM
- Probate Law - 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month from 5:00-7:00 PM
- Landlord/Tenant Law - Last Wednesday of the month from 5:00-7:00 PM
- General Law - Every Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 PM
Be aware that you will speak to the lawyer sometime between 5:00 and 7:00 PM. Please plan for a wait.
Which program does my legal issue fall under?
- Family Law: divorce, adoption, parentage, child custody, child support, and other family-related legal issues.
- Probate Law: wills, trusts, and estates.
- Landlord/Tenant Law: leases, evictions, utility shutoffs, tenants' rights, and other rental-related legal issues.
- General Law: everything else! Most civil law matters not covered by Family, Probate, or Landlord/Tenant Law, such as traffic tickets, employment law, contracts, civil lawsuits, neighbor disputes, real property, etc.
