ADA Accommodation Requests
To make a request for an ADA accommodation please contact Emily Reed, Assistant Court Administrator by email at ADARequests@washoecourts.us, or by phone at 775-325-6625. Requests may be made in person, by phone, or in writing.
The Court Administration Team will work to address requests regarding accommodation services to assist those with disabilities.
The Second Judicial District Court of Nevada is committed to ensuring that all qualified individuals with disabilities have equal access to the judicial system. Reasonable accommodations for court proceedings, judicial services, programs, and activities will be provided for those who qualify.
"Qualified individuals with disabilities" are persons covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) under 42 U.S.C. § 12101, et seq. More information can be found online at https://www.ada.gov/.
Administrative Accommodations vs. Judicial Accommodations
Not all requests can be approved by the Court Administration Team. The Court Administration Team can assist with Administrative Accommodations. Some examples of Administrative Accommodations include providing assistive listening devices, American Sign Language interpreters, or moving to a more accessible courtroom.
To make a request for a Judicial Accommodation, please file an Ex Parte Motion to Request an Accommodation Under the Americans with Disabilities Act and a Request for Submission. Requests that impact the rights of the other party or parties (e.g., extending deadlines or appearing remotely), or control over the courtroom (e.g., request for frequent breaks or to remain seated or standing during a proceeding) will be decided by the judge.
Time Frame for Requests
All requests should be made as far in advance as possible, but at least fourteen (14) days before your court proceeding. If you do not receive notice until the week of your proceeding, please make your request as soon as possible. We may not be able to accommodate same day requests.
