Elliott A. Sattler

Elliott A. Sattler was District Court Judge in Department 10 of the Second Judicial District Court from 2013 - 2020.

Judge Sattler was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He moved to Northern Nevada with his family when he was three. He was raised in Carson City and Sparks where he attended public schools. He attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon where he received a B. S. degree in political science and his Juris Doctorate degree.

Judge Sattler was an associate in the law firm of DG Menchetti, Ltd. in Incline Village following his admission to the bar in Nevada.

In 1993, Judge Sattler accepted a position as a criminal prosecutor in the Washoe County District Attorney's Office. He was a prosecutor on many of Reno's high-profile cases during this era including the State of Nevada v. James Biela (the "Brianna Denison" murder trial), the State of Nevada v. Valerie Moore (the Mizpah Hotel fire resulting in the death of twelve people and twelve murder convictions) and the State of Nevada v. John Gillane (a disgruntled Wal-Mart employee who held his managers hostage and shot them).

He designed the Early Case Resolution ("ECR") program in 1997. ECR streamlined the way that cases were prosecuted in Washoe County. ECR saved the taxpayers millions of dollars and assisted defendants by moving them quickly through the criminal justice system. The program was adopted by numerous other jurisdictions.

Judge Sattler was appointed to the bench in 2013 by Governor Brian Sandoval.

Judge Sattler was involved in the community in numerous ways. He was President of the Washoe County Bar Association, a member of the Board of Directors of Washoe Legal Services, and was on the State Bar of Nevada Transition Into Practice Committee. Judge Sattler was one of the inaugural mentors approved by the Nevada Supreme Court.
